Penetration Manager

Penetration Manager is an automated process that helps identify cutting elements and host elements. It integrates configuration and clash checks to find clashes and the status of penetrations to create a new opening. When elements clash, it validates the number of clashes with the help of configurations. Updating the model creates penetrations on elements using configuration files, clash check files, and a penetration grid view report.

Layout and Settings

Penetration Manager consists of two panels. The left panel has the File option with Penetration and Validation Tabs and the right panel has the Configuration, Clash check, Update model etc, options where the configuration and clash check files can be selected from the drop-down list and a grid view consisting of element details. It also has the information option where the you can know if the clash file selection and configuration file selection is disabled.

SettingDescription
File > Open Opens the Penetration Manager *.xml file.
File > Save Saves the penetration configuration and clash check data.
File > Export to excel Exports the grid data into excel format and saves the *.csv file.
File > Share Creates and shares a package file which includes penetration data file, clash file and configuration file along with supported files.
Penetration Tab Displays the project in a tree view with floor level-based root element "Create Penetration".
SettingDescription
Group by The Group by option manages the project tree by sorting with the main header "Create Penetration". It consists of the following four options in the drop-down list: Status, Design file, Floor and Host element.
Column List

Lists the configuration file details and its elements in a grid format on the right panel. The highlighted rows are the host element rows.

SettingDescription
Clash id Displays the clash ID of the penetrating elements and host elements.
Document Displays the name of DGN file and reference file, for example, Penetration Manager.dgn.
Floor Lists the floor names designated by the floor manager.
Element name Lists the DG Catalog type name such as Duct, Wall, Floor, etc.
Element id Displays the element id for penetrating elements and host elements. It is hidden by default and is used for tracking the change management.
Catalog item Displays the catalog item type of the penetrating elements and host elements.
Opening shape Displays the cutting element type, for example, Rectangular and Round. The data is predefined in the Penetration Configuration dialog.
Cutting element size Displays the value of the cutting element size.
Penetration size Displays the calculated value from given settings in the Penetration Configuration dialog.
Diameter Displays the diameter of cutting elements.
Width Displays the width of cutting elements.
Height Displays the height of cutting elements.
Cut offset (A) Sets the offset distance between the element and its opening.
Added Top offset (B) Sets the offset distance between the top of the element and its opening.
Added Bottom offset (C) Sets offset distance between the bottom of the element and its opening.
Current status Displays the current status of cutting elements.
Is placeholder created Displays Yes if a placeholder is created for cutting elements.
Is penetration created Displays Yes if a penetration is created for cutting elements.
Joined clashes Displays the clash ids of all the joined auto-penetrations if you have join conditions defined through offsets in the configuration dialog.
Add/Remove Columns Adds or removes columns from the column grid by selecting or deselecting the columns from the drop-down list.
Configuration Selects the cofiguration file from the drop-down.
Clash Check Selects the clash check file from the drop-down.
Apply Changes Enabled if any modifications are done in the Penetration Manager dialog.
Update model Updates the model with the recent grid data and creates penetration in the geometry. The Status on the left panel changes to "Penetration Created."
Close Closes the Penetration Manager dialog without updating any data.
Note: Ignore All and Refresh option is disabled for Penetration Tab.
Note: Auto-penetrations does not support nested references.
